Welcome back to the second official blog income report for The Daily Change Jar!
I am so excited to share with you guys how I sent from -$141+ to just over $60 in profit in one month!
Although it was a HUGE step outside of my comfort zone to post my first income report, I am SO glad that I did. I have gotten the most comments on that post so far 🙂 and other “newbie” bloggers reaching out and thanking me for sharing and being that transparent with my income report. I’m so glad you guys liked it!
It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that people are actually reading, commenting, and sharing my content. I work hard on this stuff yo!
At the time of this writing, the previous income report post has been shared a total of 248 times just from my site (not including Pinterest repins). That may not sound like a lot to some, but I’m freaking excited about it!
There are some big changes that happened with our family in November that have drastically affected how much time I can spend on the blog.
If you have been following either The Daily Change Jar or my personal Instagram account, you already know, we welcomed baby #5 this month. On November 21st at 8:22pm to be exact. The unfortunate part is he had to be delivered C-Section, which has drastically lengthened my recovery time and I didn’t do anything for a full week.
But look how cute he is…
And although I love snuggling with my new little boy (cue the new baby smell) I HATE feeling unproductive. Between feeding and pumping, taking care of the new little guy is feeling like a full-time job. So I’ve been doing what I can when the little ones are napping and my hubby is home on the weekends.
But I have pretty much kissed any time management techniques or specified scheduling goodbye! LOL
So after a few days of trying to reorganize my life and adjust to a schedule with a new baby AND a toddler AND 3 older ones, I am back on track (for the most part) with my two times a week posting schedule. Now to sit down and plan out content for the next couple weeks/months so I can STAY on track 🙂
After filling out my monthly KPI spreadsheet today, I am so excited to see my numbers growing, slowly, but slow progress is better than no progress.
So why post income reports?
Well, all the cool kids are doing it!
In all seriousness, I’m going to be 100% transparent with you about this, I have a secret agenda (evil laugh…).
As I stated in my previous income report, my main goal in starting this blog is to make money. Now there are tons of ways to make money from blogging. Affiliate sales, ads, sponsored content, selling your own products, the list goes on. With my current income reports, you can see exactly where my blog income is coming from and where I am spending and on what.
It is also a way to show you guys that making money online IS possible. And NOT just through blogging. I’ve also been very slowly working on some side projects and freelancing to bring in extra income while growing the blog.[bctt tweet=”Making money online IS possible. And NOT just through blogging.” username=”dailychangejar”]
Posting my income reports also gives me a way to stay accountable with myself. I do my best to keep track of all things I am doing to make money and what I am spending money on, but posting it gives me a good way to document everything in a more reflective way rather than just numbers on a spreadsheet.
It also gives readers an account of how I am growing my blog from the very beginning rather than going from nothing to making $10,000/month.
So what is my hidden agenda?
Eventually, I am going to create a program, product, or service that I would like you to buy from me. But of course I don’t want to just sell you anything, plus people don’t like to be “sold to.”
My hidden agenda is to create a community of like-minded individuals that know, like, and trust me 🙂 Like so many other bloggers out there, I want to create a following and (here’s a crazy thought) actually help my audience.
So if you are actually reading this, let me say a big THANK YOU! You rock! I know that you have a lot of options out there of different blogs to read, and greatly appreciate you spending your time here. And if you have any feedback or would like to see articles on specific subjects or reviews of certain products or services, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I LOVE hearing from my audience. I read and respond to every email and comment I get 🙂
Review of November Goals
So even though I just started the blog in September, there has been A LOT that I have learned along my blogging journey so far. I am always researching new and better ways to do things. I know this may sound super crazy, but I have plans to start several other blogs in 2018. I’ll get to that craziness in a minute.
In my income report from last month I set several goals, so let’s review, shall we?
Narrow down my social media strategy
Previously, I was kind of all over the place with my social media strategy. I have narrowed my efforts down to Pinterest and a little on Instagram. I have been using a combination of Tailwind
and Boardbooster to schedule my pins. I use Tailwind to schedule other people’s content and my own content. I then use Boardbooster to schedule pins on group boards and loop my older pins considering my boards are starting to fill up.
**UPDATE** Boardbooster has since closed its doors, click here to read about the Death of Boardbooster.
I did a pretty good job with scheduling out everything on Tailwind for the month of November. Considering I was down and out for about a week, I am still trying to catch up on scheduling pins for the month of December. I have been pinning mostly from Tailwind tribes, which is a great resource but I feel like it can be very time-consuming.
My plan was to make several gift guides during the month of November, unfortunately, I have only made one so far. Which as gotten some pretty good traction. At the time of this writing, it is actually my most popular post with other 300 pageviews! Whoo hoo! I would like to make some more before Christmas, but they are not a super top priority at this point.
Consistently Post on Instagram
So I didn’t do so great on this one. I normally share my posts on The Daily Change Jar account, along with some inspirational quotes, regrams from others, and a bit of “behind the scenes” content. I have not posted every day like I wanted to, but I do feel like I am growing a pretty good following on this platform. I like Instagram for different reasons than Pinterest. I feel like it is easier to connect with people on a more personal level with Instagram. Which is great for that “know, like, and trust” factor I was talking about earlier. 🙂
I am happy to report that I have actually made connections with other bloggers! I even was able to land my first guest post opportunity! It is not officially published yet, but I will be letting you guys know when it is! I made these connections through being part of a pretty active Facebook group for bloggers. It has been fun getting to know others and what they are blogging about and how their journey is going. I plan to continue to foster the relationships I make within this group and offer value to others in the group.
You may already know this, but when it comes to building relationships, especially business relationships online, you want to make sure that you provide value to people before asking them for something. So if you have already helped them, they will be more likely to help you out, whether it be a guest post or hiring you on as a VA.
I don’t ever want to be that person who is always saying “my blog this” and “my blog that”! I only say it in smarta$$ ways to my husband. ? I have been sharing my blog little by little with my friends and family. My dad even said that he has been reading it ?. When I write a post I will share it on my personal Instagram and Facebook profile. Not trying to shove things down people’s throats, but if they are interested in what I am doing, they can ask and I will be happy to answer any questions they have.
There are a few other things I realized during the month of November in my blogging journey. There is always more that I want to do ? I am always researching new and better ways to do things. I have big plans for the blog in the new year that I can’t wait to share, but for now, I will keep things under wraps.
I also realized that I don’t have as much time as I think I do! Blogging can be difficult as is, but trying to get things done with a newborn and a toddler, now that creates some time management challenges. Talk about lack of focus and concentration! But I have been doing my best working while baby sleeps and on the weekends when hubby is home to help.
I am impatient. I want things done YESTERDAY! I have this nagging feeling things are not going to progress with the blog-or my side projects- as quickly as I would like. But it is what it is and I am doing all I can to make progress and be consistent, as well as trying to stay sane ?.
So let’s get down to the money talk, that’s really what you’re here for right?
If you are familiar with either of this ad platforms, you are aware that you need to reach $100 threshold to actually get paid. Even though I haven’t officially gotten paid out for these ads, I still wanted to include them in the income report. My total income from October from these two platforms was less than $1, so you can see how quickly add up.
- ShopStyle Collective-$11.10
- Amazon Associate-$0.78
Now I am part quite a few different affiliate programs, however, I haven’t gotten much traction on most of them and don’t have much of a system down for promoting them at this point. I have been focusing on just a few to start with.
The ShopStyle Collective earning are coming mostly from my personal Pinterest account. I am using that as an experiment to show that you can make affiliate income online WITHOUT a blog. Don’t worry, there is a future post on this.
Gross Income: $156.42
Not too bad for only being a couple months into my blogging journey and still trying to get everything figured out!

9,316 which is up from 861 from October. That is a 982% increase in traffic! I’ll take that! 6,922 of those Pageviews came from Pinterest! Now you see why I am focusing on Pinterest as my main platform?!
I’m telling you people, if you have a blog and you want to grow your traffic Pinterest + Tailwind = WINNING!
- Google drive-$1.99
- Continuing Education-$18.75
**UPDATE** Boardbooster has since closed its doors, click here to read about the Death of Boardbooster.
For the continuing education, I took advantage of a black Friday special for ClickBank University and also spent $7 on an Instagram automation thing to start a little side hustle that I haven’t had time to get to yet.
I totally admit that I opt into just about everything I come across online and would buy every course and new software out there. But I know that is not the best way to do things, but I like to see what is out there and what other people are promoting and how they set up their sales funnels and email copy. I’m a total marketing geek in that way ?.
So technically my “income” for November was $60.71! That is quite a step up from the -$141 from last month! Progress is progress!
I also made some side income from Fiverr, an eBay sale, and some VA work. Which in total added up to $134.23! Not too bad!
That’s a total of $194.94, not too shabby!
Now a lot of bloggers create a pin that emphasizes how much they made BEFORE expenses. I chose to highlight my income, specifically from the blog, AFTER expenses.
Because to run a successful blog takes money. Now you could blog for free, however, there are many downfalls to that strategy. It’s great to see that other bloggers are making $X per month, however, if you aren’t turning a profit then you have a hobby, not a business. Which one do you want?
Side income review
As I said before, there are tons of ways to make money online, with or without blogging.
As a self-proclaimed multipotentialite, I like to have a lot of different irons in the fire 🙂
I have had an eBay store for some time now. I don’t do a whole lot with it. It mostly contains things my husband has accumulated over the years that I am trying to get rid of. At this time I don’t actively promote it, and get sales every so often that trickle in. I did make a sale in November that after shipping I profited $22.48.
I stepped out of my comfort zone yet again this month and reached out to people I knew and asked them if they knew anyone that needed some VA type work done. I had also seen a fellow entrepreneur post on Facebook that they were looking for some extra help, so I reached out and let her know that I was interested. She has since sent me a few jobs, and I hope to continue this relationship with her as her go-to VA.
So if you are looking to make a few extra bucks, there are a few ideas to get you started. You can also check out my post on 9 different ways to make money from home.
December Blogging Goals
Big blogging goal #1-establish my content calendar and stick to it!
I had a content calendar started, but I desperately need to redo it! It originally was kind of modge podged together. Now that I am incorporating income reports and have some data on my popular posts, I have a better understanding of what you, my audience, want to read about. I will be focusing on ways to save money, various ways to make extra income, both online and offline, and highlighting some great products and services to help accomplish the whole saving and making money thing.
Write an epic “how to start a blog” post.
After doing a bit of research, it seems that “how to start a blog” posts are EXTREMELY popular. Building my audience/email list is a consistent overall goal of the blog, therefore, do what the other successful bloggers are doing then, right?
I was also talking to a friend who wants to start a blog and she had a ton of questions for me. And although I may still be a “newbie” I have worked with bloggers, have my own blog, and have done an astronomical amount or research on all things blogging. So although I may not know everything, I feel as though I know enough to teach someone else to start a successful blog.
So if you are interested in starting a blog in 2018,
check back in December for an EPIC post on how to start a blog (and possibly a free email course!)
This is something I have wanted to do from the very beginning of the blog. I want to create a “one-stop shop” for resources related to saving money, making extra money, and blogging. I want to be able to share all the tools and resources that I use in one easy to find location rather than spread throughout various blog posts.
Get my guest posts published
As I mentioned earlier, I actually made some connections with other bloggers and in turn, landed some opportunities! I currently have 2 guest posts in the works. I have one of them written and just about ready to go, but hit the pause button on it due to being in the hospital with baby longer than expected. So I need to get those squared away and published to bring in new readers.
**UPDATE** I have since have had two guest post published on Minimal Capsule on How to be Productive as a WAHM and also on Her Paper Route about how to write a killer review post that converts.
I have about 1000 other goals I would like to accomplish in December, like setting up new passive income streams, starting to write content for other blogs I want to start, getting more VA work, growing my presence on Fiverr, taking previous courses that I have purchased, etc…
But, there are only so many hours in a day to work and I’m pretty sure even if I NEVER slept, I wouldn’t get it all done! Plus there is that whole work/life balance and spending time with the little ones and the hubby, doing my various non-profit work, getting the kids to and from their many activities, and get things done around the house.
Gosh, I’m exhausted just typing all that…
So here is to rocking December and bringing in the new year with confidence and enthusiasm!
Sharing is caring! Make sure to pin this for later!
